HZS is becoming an end in itself
After reporting from the Hockey Federation of Slovenia (HZS) today that the Czech goalkeeper of Ljubljana Olympia Luka Horak, who won Slovenian citizenship on Wednesday, will not perform as a Slovenian in the next final match, they responded in the afternoon at the Ljubljana club. The HZS allegations were denied and claimed that they wanted to report the actor as a Slovenian.
“At HK Olimpija Ljubljana, we firmly reject the HZS indication that we did not want to report Horak as a Slovenian player for the DP finals. The club sought to play Lukaš in the finals as a domestic player and actively work on the application. HZS representatives, however, consciously avoided communication and thus delayed procedures. After yesterday’s ignoring the calls of the club representatives by the HZS, the drop over the edge of today’s patronizing press release was dropped. The umbrella organization’s sequence is perceived as a planned, disadvantaged and unnecessary provocation. «
“At HK Olympia Ljubljana, in the fact that Horak would play as a Slovenian citizen in the national championship finals we see an important symbolic gesture that would emphasize his personal and sporting commitment to Slovenia and add even more weight to the final match. The decision not to act as a Slovenian actor at such a crucial moment does not express « fair play », but to be a missed opportunity to together celebrate sports values with a sense of belonging and respect for the country Horak has chosen for his new sports home. Of course, this matter is not the only missed opportunity of our umbrella organization, which, due to such events, is becoming an end in itself. «
The HZS announced today that it welcomes the decision of the Slovenian Government to award Horak Slovenian citizenship, but also welcomed the decision of HK Olimpija, the decision of Horak to reach the finals of the finals for the title of the champion until the second game of the champion.
This was justified by the Union by explaining that « the aforementioned decision of the dragon leadership in such a sensitive moment as the finals of the national championship endings follow the principles of Fair Play ». Horak, which has been playing at the Ljubljana club since 2023 and has a contract until the 2026/27 season, will be able to play for the Slovenian national team in international competitions by acquiring Slovenian citizenship.
