Hurezeanu, at the informal meeting of foreign ministers in NATO states

Minister Emil Hurezeanu participated on Wednesday and Thursday in the informal meeting of Foreign Ministers in NATO member states, held in Antalya, Turkey, MAE reports.

According to the quoted source, the meeting was focused on the NATO Summit Agenda in The Hague, which will emphasize the increase of defense allocated, including from the perspective of equitable sharing within the Alliance.

Foreign ministers discussed NATO priorities against the consequences of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, both in terms of strengthening discouragement and defense in all areas and continuing support given to Ukraine.

The head of the Romanian diplomacy has welcomed the efforts of the US and the European ones, in which Romania also participates, for the establishment of ‘a comprehensive and sustainable peace, supported by solid and credible security guarantees, as well as for further offering the assistance for Ukraine’.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emil Hurezeanu emphasized the challenges that the security situation in the Black Sea region also generates for the Republic of Moldova. He emphasized the importance of increasing the contributions of the European allies to the collective defense, signaling the efforts made by Romania, during the last years, to increase the budget allocated to the defense.

The ministerial discussions have confirmed that the alliance is facing increasing threats, for whose control, clear measures are needed regarding discouragement and defense, with more capabilities, consolidated infrastructure and increased resilience. Allied states have already taken firm steps to strengthen the defense at national level, as well as to strengthen the defense on the eastern flank, in accordance with the decisions already adopted by NATO leaders since February 2022.

The discussions also reconfirmed the importance of revitalizing the defense industry, reaching the already established capabilities targets, based on the new defense plans, requiring an active participation of the defense industries in the Allied states.

In this context, the Romanian Minister emphasized the need to support national profile industries in the member countries and referred to Romania, in November, an annual event of major importance at the ally level, namely NATO Industry Forum.
