Hungary changes constitution: man is either man or woman

Hungary’s parliament has anchored in the state’s constitution that a person can only be defined as a man or woman. Accordingly, non-binary people should not be recognized as such. 140 Parliamentarians voted for the amendment, which the government camp led by right -wing populist Prime Minister Viktor Orban had brought in. There were 21 votes against. The two -thirds majority necessary for constitutional changes came about as expected.

Protest sounds and demo the opponent

During the vote, trumpet sounds of opponents of the constitutional change sounded in the plenary hall in the plenary hall. Numerous supporters of the opposition demonstrate in front of the parliament building.

Already on March 18, Hungary had banned the previously annual Pride parades in the urgent procedure, in which people demonstrate for the rights of non-heterosexual forms of life.

Already 15. Changes to the 2011 constitution

It is the 15th amendment of the Hungarian constitution newly introduced according to the ideas of Orban and its political friends in 2011, the preamble of which bears the title « National Creed ». Since December 2020, this constitution also states that a mother can only be a woman and a father. Since 2020, a law has also been in effect in Hungary that makes it impossible to officially change their gender.
