Hungary changed its constitution to list gender

Despite the multi -week protests, the Hungarian Parliament on Monday made changes to the Constitution aimed at people with different sexual orientation.

Motivated with the desire to protect children, family values and to protect the society from « political pressure networks funded from abroad », which undermine the country’s sovereignty, the amendments passed by 140 to 21 votes through Parliament, where Prime Minister Victor Orban – Fidesz, has an absolute majority.

The amendment from Monday is at the heart of the legislation adopted on March 18, which prohibits the annual Pride parade, limiting the freedom of meetings, which according to Fidesz are harmful to children.

Hungary First in the EU prohibit Pride

The amendments also record in the Constitution that Hungary recognizes only two sexes, male and female, in accordance with Orban’s Christian-Congratulative Program.

Another amendments states that the citizenship of Hungarian citizens, who are also citizens of another country outside the EU, « may be terminated for a fixed term ».

Constitutional amendments are part of Orban’s political campaign to increase its main election base before the parliamentary elections next year and also to attract votes from the far right, some analysts said.

« Processing legislators consider this change as a constitutional protection against ideological influences, which, in their view, threaten the well -being of children, especially in the context of events such as Pride, » wrote government spokesman Zoltan Kovac on the platform X before the vote.

The LGBTC Community has been the target of the ruling party for years, Pride organizers said on its site. They said that if the government party tried to ban a rally on the rights of the LGBT Community, there is no guarantee that they will not prohibit peace protests from other groups.
