Hundreds of Palestinians rebel in Gaza against Hamas: ‘Go away’
Hundreds of Palestinians protested in the north of Gaza, looking for the end of the war and chanted « Hamas leaves », according to social media posts, in a rare public opposition to the militant group that encouraged the latest war on October 7, 2023. Most buildings in a dense populated area have been converted to ruins, and much of the population has been moving several times to avoid conflict.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quickly answered and said that the protest showed that the decision of Israel was to renew his offensive in Gaza.
« Leaving, leave, Hamas leaves, » protesters shouted on Tuesday, according to one post on XU, it seems from the Beit Lahia region in Gaza.
« It was a spontaneous gathering against the war because people are tired and they have nowhere to go, » said one witness who spoke, provided his name was not mentioned because of fear of retribution.
The protest posts began to circulate in the late hours on Tuesday. Reuters managed to confirm where the video was taken towards the buildings, columns and schedule of the road corresponding to satellite recordings of the area. But Reuters could not independently confirm the date of the video. However, several videos and photos divided on social networks show protests in the area on March 25.
High official Hamasa Basem Naim said that people have the right to protest for suffering in the war, but condemned, he said, « suspicious political agendas » that exploit the situation.
Israel renewed its offensive on March 18th, terminating a two -month truce during which Hamas handed over more hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.
