Huge demand for “Trendy Food”: Now Arla is screwing up

Co -operative Arla Foods invest 34.5 million euros in a new production line for Skyr at the dairy in Linköping, Sweden.

The investment is part of the cooperative’s long -term strategy and must meet the rising demand for skyr.

The new production line will primarily produce skyr for the Swedish market, where demand has at times been rising sharply over the last few years.

The great interest in skyrs is driven by the growing appetite for protein -rich and low -fat products, and by 2024 Skyr – locally known as Kvark – was even named the most trendy food of the year in a study by the Swedish food organization Life Medical Fine.

This is how it writes Arla in a press release.

« I am very pleased to be able to announce this big investment that really meets all the criteria, » says David Boulanger, Executive Vice President of Supply Chain in Arla, and continues:

« Consumers’ demand for skyr is high and growing, our Swedish cooperatives are dedicated to producing lower climate imprints, and Arla has a special expertise in transforming their milk into protein-rich and tasty skyr products. With this investment we ensure future growth in the category. »
