Of

No poses, capturing spontaneity, how to attract the attention of the animal. Navid Tarazi: «The most beautiful image? The one that returns the love of people for their four -legged friends as they were part of themselves «

There is a certainty that anyone who has a dog unites: taking a photo is an impossible (almost) enterprise. You are working on the computer or you are busy in the stove, suddenly you turn you and it is there, in a strange position or with a funny face. You look at it, laugh, then you think of taking a photo to immortalize that moment. Take the phone and you are about to point it on her when in no time you say, between fake indifference and obvious annoyance, it goes away leaving you with the camera in mid -air.

But how do you take a beautiful and original photo to your dog? We asked one who surely knows: the twenty -six year old Iranian Navid Tarazi, Aka Doggodaiilywhich for 2 years, carried out on March 25, on his Instagram profile followed by one and a half million followers (from which the image that illustrates this article is taken, editor’s note), Publish the photos (and videos) of crossed dogs randomly on the street together with their human companions. Not only the images, but also the stories of the animals, told by the owners. Trusing us a smile and, sometimes, even a tear.

Navid, what is the secret to taking a beautiful photo of a dog?
«A ball helps a lot, it is a motivation that pushes the dog to look at you and take an interest in you. It is a precise moment, the one in which the dog in the confusion of the moment is kidnapped by the presence of the ball. Cookies also work, especially with the most delicious dogs. There are more wary dogs for which more shots are needed, but the first is usually good, at most the second, to have the perfect photo ».

What is the perfect photo?
«The one that captures the soul of the dog. If it is wary, it must also be in the photo, ditto if it is cheerful, sweet, brat, etc. ».

Why dogs? Among the videos there is also a cat, was it an intruder?
« In reality I like to photograph any animal on a person’s leash, even rabbits if I meet them! ».

Do you have dogs? Or do you think about adopting it?
« Still not, I live alone and it is difficult to manage a dog for me right now, but in the future I will definitely have it. »

Meeting hundreds of them, surely an idea of the various races that are around. Which one thinks can the right one for her?
«I think adopting a dog is something that suddenly happens in life. There is the perfect time to take it, it happens to you and adopt it. There is no difference for me ».

A book that will be released in September was also born from his project.
« I collected in a book the most beautiful images and stories I have listened to in these two years, about 500 ».

Can these photos and stories serve as inspiration for those who still don’t have a dog and maybe decide to adopt one?
« Absolutely yes, they are stories that help you understand how a dog is, how dogs think, as they are all different from each other. »

What prompted you to devote himself to the photography of dogs and to tell their stories?
« In Iran it is forbidden to bring dogs for a walk. Every Iranian who comes to Italy and sees many dogs on the street with people is hit, just as it happened to me. Not only from quantity, but also from how much they are loved by people. When I arrived in Turin I didn’t know anything about dogs, races, what was a golden retriever or a labrador. I asked people questions, but I didn’t understand what they answered because I didn’t even know a word of Italian. I pretended to understand and home, with Google Translate, I started understanding more and more, I learned Italian in this way, speaking with the people of their dogs ».

Was there a meeting with a dog or master who marked the beginning of this project?
«The first time I went out with the intention of photographing dogs I was so shy that I didn’t know where to start. I saw a well -dressed man with his dachshund and I thought it was a good start. We talked in English and from there another and another and then another. Up to more than five hundred. At the beginning I only asked the photo, then I started understanding that – Wow! – There are very interesting stories behind every dog ».

How do you choose the subjects to photograph and interview?
« At the beginning I chose the most beautiful, now I don’t judge and go to everyone because I never know what will happen. »

How important is spontaneity with respect to the laying in its shots?
«It is too important, I start from the beginning that I do not make videos with the phone but with a camera attached to the neck, which is not seen. At the end of the interview I ask if I can publish the content ».

Do you think your work can help change the perception of dogs in Iran?
«I hope so, but it takes a lot of time to change the mentality and culture. For now only Italians follow me, but I hope in the future I can do something for dogs in Iran too ».

Is there a story that has particularly affected him among those he told?
«I often tell Totò’s story. His master died and he lived this fact as an abandonment. He waited for him for a year where he parked the car, it is a story that touched me a lot ».

If he could summarize the link between man and dog in one image, what would it be?
“It’s difficult. It would certainly be an image where you take the look that people have towards their dog. They look at them with so much affection, so much love. As if they were a part of them ».
