How to regain a healthy relationship with food and yourself?

Forget the important thing

« Many diets promise quick results, but one of the most important things is forgotten – long -term effects on our health, » says Sandra Kameliorienė, a lifestyle medicine specialist.

According to her, a healthy lifestyle is not a short -term system of rules. It covers all human life: nutrition, movement, sleep, emotional well -being and connection with yourself.

« Health without diets does not mean that you eat anything. This means that you eat consciously. It is the ability to listen to your body’s needs, recognize hunger, satiety, emotional eating – without guilt or control over violence, » says the specialist.

According to her, a healthy diet is a powerful tool for regaining health, not just to regulate weight.

« I often hear, saying: I need to follow a diet because I have health problems, » says Sandra Kameliorienė. « But it is important to understand: not a strict diet, but adherence to healthy eating principles actually have a long -term effect on health. »

According to lifestyle medicine specialist, even if you have diabetes, cardiovascular disease, elevated cholesterol, complain about indigestion, and you may feel good if you use conscious choices.

Learn to choose

« Nutrition can be a powerful remedy. When we eat in a balanced, we get enough fiber, good fat, we reduce inflammatory processes, the body reacts. The need for medicines may decrease, blood sugar stabilizes, blood pressure, » says the specialist.

Most importantly, she says, not banning everything, but learning how to choose what and when to eat to make food an ally, not an enemy.

Lifestyle medicine, based on S. Kameliorienė, applies science -based strategies to help maintain health naturally.

« Diet -free nutrition is a balanced, diverse and full -fledged food without good or bad labels. It is an attentive eating – without urgency, with all the senses. It is also an emotional health enhancement: learning to recognize when we eat because of stress or sadness. Of course, it is necessary to learn to recognize body signals.

Personal story

« Last week, this international day without diets is just a symbolic date. Any the next day we can try to slow down the pace, break free from the constant ‘need’ and ‘can’t’. Remember that any body is worthy of respect – regardless of size or shape, ”says Sandra.

According to her, health is not drastic measures, but the path of love for yourself and your consistent, gentle choices.

The lifestyle medicine specialist admits that there was a time when she had tried many diets herself. For a long time she was suffering from a change in weight. « One day weight loss, the next – growing again. Together I grew up with self -frustration. I was looking for a perfect solution: diet, plan, supplements. Eventually I realized that the problem is not food. The problem is our relationship with food, body, emotion, » says the specialist.

« When I work with people, I see the same story. When I started filling out my nutritional blog, many are surprised – how much everything is eaten during the day, how much we feel emotional rather than physiological hunger. This blog becomes a mirror – no accusations, but openly looking at reality, ”says a lifestyle medicine specialist.

Diet culture often teaches that the body should be repaired, adjusted, reduced. However, S. Kapeliorienė emphasizes: the body is not a problem that needs to be solved.

Health without diets does not mean that you eat anything. This means eating consciously. It is the ability to listen to the needs of your body, to recognize hunger, satiety, emotional eating.

« It is constantly changing, and this is natural. The body is not a project, it is our home. Accepting our body is the first step towards real health, » she believes.

According to her, when a person learns to respect his body, decisions change – the choice of food that feeds, not punishes, the movement that brings joy, not pain.

S. Kapeliorienė advises: « Stop looking for the right diet. Stop blaming yourself for weight waves. Start listening. Listen to your body, thoughts, your true needs. »

The lifestyle medicine specialist calls not to start completely out of control when and what we eat, but to change our attitude. « Instead of pressing ourselves, we learn to take care of ourselves. Not temporarily, not until summer, but for life. Health is not punishment. It is care. » She says.
