How would we react if we were told that we have six months left to live? Peter Schjeldahl wrote How I diefunny end to end. I had never heard of him. I discovered it by passing the book box in the building. It is just before the carrier door, in a niche on the wall. Everyone puts what they have read there and does not want to keep (or wants to share). There are ancient books, scored and rinsed by use, this one was sparkling and young, with a black and white photo of a couple who looks at the reader, she with a frank and beautiful smile, a priori less pleasant, eyes more suspicious but full of intelligence. And hop, I took them with me leaving one morning to work, reserving it for public transport. I did not regret.

Peter Schjeldahl is a great art critic (Village Voice, New Yorker), Or rather was, he died in 2022, and this book written in 2019 was testamentary. First sentence: « Lung cancer, invasive. Not really a surprise. «  He is 77 years old and has smoke since the age of 16. We expect to read memories or a confession. Well no, it's finer.
