How German Supers lure Dutch merchants
German supermarkets attract Dutch customers. Retail website Distrifood Went on tour and saw that supermarkets managed to draw Dutch bargain hunters across the border.
Over the border at Oeding, near the Gelderse Winterswijk, the Distrifolders saw that in the Dutch tobacco is being recommended (11 euros for a packet of half -heavy drum). At Supermarket Rewe there is a Dutch sign that encourages Dutch people to download the Rewe app. At Edeka in Bocholt, 60 percent of customers would consist of Dutch people.
The border trade goes two ways. Many Germans go to the Discounter Price Hamer (« ever Günstig! ») In Winterswijk for cheaper coffee and paracetamol.
The assumption that a cart full of groceries in the Netherlands is more expensive than Germany and Belgium, is wrongaccording to price comparisons from the European Commission about which NRC Earlier wrote. The Dutch benefit from the fact that supermarkets in the Netherlands have relatively many offers.
Turnover therefore comes to a larger part of promotional campaigns. The Distrifood article also shows again: for ‘bang prices’ the Dutch like to drive around a bit.
