Yesterday, an Air India plane with 242 passengers on board was crashed near Ahmedabad, West India airport. The plane was flying to London’s Gatwick Airport.

According to a report by a police officer, more than 290 people are confirmed.

Boeing 787, departed from Ahmedabad’s Airport to the Western Indian state of Gujarati at 1:39 pm, at the local (8:09 am Bst) on Thursday.

Who was on board Air India plane?

There were 232 passengers and 12 crew members on the board, said Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, head of the India Civil Aviation Directorate.

These include 169 Indian nationals on board, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese nationals and one Canadian on board, Air India said, adding that the injured are being taken to nearby hospitals.

The flight was under the command of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a training captain with 8,200 hours of flight experience, and the first Kundar Clive Officer, who had recorded 1,100 hours of flight experience.

Civil aviation authorities said there were 10 other crew members on the flight board.

Who has survived the collision?

A British man has survived miraculously, while 40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh is said to have escaped the accident without medical help with minor injuries.

Sky News has spoken with his family, who have confirmed his survival, while the BBC said his name was confirmed in the flight manifestation separated by the authorities.

Ramesh was in India for several days to visit his family, but lived in London with his wife and child for 20 years, he said, according to Indian media.

« When I got up, there were bodies around me. I was scared. I got up and ran. There were pieces of the plane around me. Someone grabbed me, put me in an ambulance and took me to the hospital, » he said.

His family did not hear from another relative who believes he was also in flight.

What happened before the crash of Air India?

After departing from Ahmedabad’s airport at 1:39 pm at the local time, the flight made a warning call for air traffic control.

But there was no response to subsequent calls made by controllers to the plane, civil aviation authorities said.

According to Fliffradar24, the aircraft signal lost « less than a minute after the rise ».

Five minutes after departing from Ahmedabad’s airport, the plane crashed into a residential area in Meghani Nagar.

A police official told Reuters that the plane had hit a dormitory building.

Police have confirmed that at least 290 troops have been released from the crash site so far.

It is not clear how many of them are people from the plane and how many victims were on Earth.

What road had the aircraft followed?

The AI171 flight number was traveling to London’s Gatwick Airport.

But flight tracking data show that the aircraft was only shortly in the air before falling near Sardar International Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

What is known about the Boeing plane?
