Early morning of May 4, 1990. I go to the SSR Supreme Council to vote for the independence of the Latvian state. I didn’t know if I would get to the building at all because I knew the KGB had been decided to shoot me. Later, a new order was issued three more times that I was organizing the overthrow of I. Godmanis shock-therapy government three times. I was informed by the Interpol officer about these orders in a timely manner, who I got to suffer. When I successfully got to the door of the meeting room, there was a thick one inside the strangers. I think it’s all over, they are checkers to arrest us. Literally physically breaking through them, and only when I got to my vote, I calmed down. They are unfamiliar, look, on the contrary – almost guarding us. It turned out that they were indeed the Chekists, and the deputies were able to vote for the declaration safely (this was said by E. Johansons, the head of the KGB himself).

When the vote for the declaration began, I did not know what the result would be, as the LTF was only 86 members, including agents of different ranks. It was decisive – how would Latvian -speaking communists vote?! We needed 134 votes to accept the declaration – 138 voted. Incredible! What happened behind the scenes?

Later it turned out that I didn’t know a lot. Namely, the altered content in the text of the Restoration of Independence, that there will be no independence, but there will be a transition period, did not know about the Communist and Chekist agreement on the privatization of folk property, the long -planned shock therapy for the nation and the deingustrialization of the economy, about the elimination of farmers as a class elimination. things. Nothing of it was in our LTF program, which we started in the elections and was elected. All this had happened in the so -called « backstage » and the people were cheated.

So what happened special? On May 4, 1990, a majority of members of the Supreme Council of the Supreme Council of the Socialist Republic of Latvia (LSSR) declared that the Latvian SSR was renamed the Republic of Latvia, but the Supreme Council of the Republic of Latvia would be called. The LSSR was led by communists A. Gorbunov and I. Daudišs. The new LR AP continued to lead the same crystalline greater communists – secretaries. But what we declared in the declaration was the « Temporary Republic of Latvia », or the name – « May 4 ».

The Latvian SSR was not transformed into the Republic of Latvia, but was renamed the Republic of Latvia, preserving the dictatorship of the entire Communist or Socialist Soviet rule, with the entire communist crew and the structure of the KGB. The latter continued to work at full speed and is still turning – every day a checker boardes the TV screen. I say Latvian TV – not on Easter Islands on TV, where they should be after lustration.

On May 4, the dream of free Latvia was not realized, as the de facto remained in the communist Soviet power and de iure Latvia remained in the bandit territorial formation – the USSR. We continued to expand the 15th term around the accepted course to the « expanding sovereignty », so no serious country did not recognize us internationally, after August 21, 1991, we, 111 (de facto 97), the MPs declared Latvia as a new independent republic.

So what happened to the promised declaration of independence? It was changed. Read for yourself – Article 6 of the declarations reads: « 6. To consider it during the transitional period (my highlight) to apply the provisions of the Constitution of the Latvian SSR and other legislation acts that work in the territory of Latvia at the time of this decision. Only communists and Leviti could write such a chimeras. Head from the Latvian Constitution, the torso from the Constitution of Stalin-Brezhnev. Please read these four articles of the Satversme in 35 years later! All of these articles are violated – which means the situation is anticonstitutional. Latvia is not a free republic, but is kirchensteinally retracted in a new union, there is no Kurzeme, nor Zemgale, Vidzeme, or Latgale in their borders and in its existence, the elections are anticonstitutional – according to party lists.

What was the result? As a result, we actually proclaimed the temporary republic of Latvia, unlike Lithuania, which immediately passed the path of independence.

Who wrote the declaration of independence? It was a secret group, not the editorial board elected. E.Levits was not there, but maybe the other way around, because how such a text could appear. I do not know, but it is clear that the same crystal -clear communists have been aligned to Moscow – the news on April 19, 1990 in the newspaper « Soviet Youth »: « A. Gorbunov, Ve Bresis, D. Īvāns and I. Biser meet with M. Gorbachev and inform him of the declaration.

Here’s where that « dog buried »! Me and many other Members learned it from the newspaper, it was a shock for me. The result was visible, the words of the Chekist Wolf (M. Wulfson) were that Latvia achieves independence as quickly as the dull Dauk. But the legal status did not interfere with J. Chess students through the former USSR in the territory of prihvatization and shock therapy. People in Rezekne told me that a scarf was goodbye to the wagons and money of expensive factory equipment and money to Moscow.

Thinking, remembering the events of that time, the heart is heartbroken and hopelessness – all the dreams in the mud. We highlighted the country from one Bund (A), but some immersed it in another collapsing Bund (A), in which Latvia is the most saved, the least developed, lost nearly 1 million people from 2.65 million.

What war has been over Latvia?! It is even difficult to cover – like a few dozen people who grabbed power, they could carry and bring such destruction and misery. We see that they had no honor, no mind or conscience. The nation is – this is my verdict in 35 years! Thinking about the independence and self -determination of the Latvian state, I remember the ship described in the novel by V. Vainovich, who goes to the coast of communism without a compass. The ship never fitted on the banks of independence and momentum, all the time drifting in the ocean waves, but the commissioner made new reforms all the time and imposed new taxes. It is also Latvia – mocked and humiliated, is still on the way to the port.
