How about getting a little tough face?
In the winter of 1997-98, Valdimar Sverrisson was in photography abroad. He came home for Christmas and got to extend his stay to work on a project for the school. It involved forming famous/well -known Icelanders in their natural environment, it is at home or at work.
On the list was Rúnar Júlíusson a musician who Valdimar had not met or talked to. « I hit the thread to Runar and he took me well; said this quite obviously and invited me to come home in Keflavik, » says Valdimar, who did not let it say twice. Camed with her friend Einar Óla Einarsson photographer to custody and trust.
Rúnar invited them to the lower floor, where his album version, Spacesteinn, was housed and the studio recording home, as it was called. Valdimar looked around and tried to form the landlord here and there. None of it, however, was properly doing. « Then he showed me the bathroom and I saw at the same time that I had to form it there. I first thought of the scene from Pulp Fiction, where John Travolta sits on the bathroom, but realized that I couldn’t form Rúnna Júl on the toilet, » says Valdimar.
« Then I saw the bathtub and thought: What if I let him stand in it with the bass? Rúni was completely in it and lined up. How about getting a little cool scene? I asked, and then came this look that can be seen in the picture, » he adds.
Would be a major exaltation
This was before the time of digital photography and Valdimar kept the way home with the film to have it induced. Runner told him that he was on his way back to school and that he would contact in the fall when he returned home to show him the pictures. « Run then had the word that he might be able to use a picture on a CD if they came out well.
Valdimar made a promise and brought Runner pictures in the fall. He liked it, but said he intends to carry them to his family and be in touch. Way now and waited and nothing was heard from the rocker. Valdimar was bored and struck the thread to Keflavik. Then it came to pass that the Rúnar family had, though, the bathtub too similar to some other picture and it would not be possible. Valdimar was hopefully disappointed but nothing to say.
However, not all the story is told. Soon after that, Pétur Blöndal, a journalist, called Morgunblaðið. « Complete Valdimar! We have a whole page in Morgunblaðið where we post photos from photographers who tell the story behind them. Are you willing to participate in this? »
Of course. Valdimar met with Portfolio to Peter, including the picture of Runner in the bathtub, and told him stories. The day the article appeared in Moggan or the next day Valdimar came home and then his message was awaited on the answering machine. It was Rúnar Júlíusson who asked him to call back as soon as he received the message. « What’s going on now? » Valdimar thought with him.
He called the heel and then Rúnar informed him that the designer who was designing the new album cover for him wanted to get the bathtub and no other picture. He had seen her in Morgunbladid. It was now a matter of course, and the picture, as it appeared above, was on the envelope of Runar’s solo album, the shade.
On lacquer lava shoes in the lava
After that, Valdimar Rúnar formed many times and more pictures after him adorn the rocker album. One of them is here at the top of the page, but it took Valdimar in the lava in Reykjanes at Kúagerði. « The run was on the lacquer, the cool he was, and it was memorable to see him stumble there around the lava. I was in good walking shoes, » says Valdimar, but the album is simply called Reykjanesbraut. Valdimar also owns the film on the front of the albums over and the Faith 13. Then they made Einar Óli music videos with two songs by Rúnar.
Asked about the person and the myth, Valdimar replies that Rúnar was a sweet man and comfortable in communication.
« He was really quiet and balanced and it leaked from him the coolness without him having to have anything for it. It was a strong year around Rúnar and it was invaluable to get to know him. »
