How a Luxembourg had to fight against the Americans

Around 12,000 Luxembourgers have been forced to go to the German Wehrmacht since 1942. While the vast majority of the Eastern Front have to fight against the Soviet Union, Fernand Melchior was assigned to a unit in the West against Americans and English: in the Ardennes offensive.

After the war, he wrote his memories of the battle as he still had in his memory and he could understand it from his documents. These records as well as numerous photos are the basis and guide of its history as a compulsory recruited Luxembourg in World War II.

« Wort » journalist Jan Kreller and « Wort » multimedia journalist Sibila Lind, together with the head of the National Museum of Military History, in Diekirch, Benoit Niederkorn, go on the footsteps of Fernand Melchior. A trip to the locations of the last and finally failed decision -making battle of the Third Reich in the west.
