Brussels

After a fire in a house in Laeken, a child was brought to the hospital lightly intoxicated. The house has been declared uninhabitable. The Brussels fire brigade reports this.

In the night from Saturday to Sunday, the Brussels fire brigade had to get out for a roof fire in the Steenbakkerijstraat in Laken. The fire raged on the third floor of the building and one of the residents was already able to flee on the roof of a neighboring building on the arrival of the firefighters. « He was evacuated with the ladder car, » says Walter Derieuw of the Brussels fire brigade. « A resident was missing for a moment, but luckily shortly thereafter reported himself. All residents were gathered outside by the police. The fire was extinguished with the help of the car ladders and an interior attack. »

Roof collapsed

Eventually the entire roof collapsed on the floor of the third floor. « That made it difficult for our teams to work. Part of the floor of the third floor was dismantled to extinguish a smoldering fire. The clearance works were of long breath and the origin of the fire still has to be determined. »

Thanks to the rapid intervention of the fire brigade, an extension of the fire to the neighboring homes was avoided. The house has been declared uninhabitable. One child, slightly intoxicated by the smoke, was taken to the hospital with her mother. The police are organizing the relocation of a dozen people. There were no smoke detectors in the house.
