Homeowners should do this before the rain hits
He emphasizes that the damage most often occurs as a result of water that penetrates basements, but also filled gutters, leaky roof structures and downpipes may cause problems.
« Make sure gutters and drainage pipes are cleaned and lifting possessions from the basement floor. When so much rain comes in combination with so dry a soil, it doesn’t take much until it can cause water damage, » says Jan Graversgaard.
If the damage occurs and there is water that has entered the basement, see as soon as possible if there is moisture in the basement.
« We therefore encourage everyone to pay extra attention to moisture in the basement. If the damage happens, it is important to respond quickly and have the problem repaired before it develops into mold which is both harmful to health and expensive to get rid of, » says Jan Graversgaard.
You can do that
-
Clean drain, gutters and drainage pipes. Also, check if the drainage and run-in wells have been stopped by leaves.
-
If necessary, use water protection tape at doors and windows. If water comes, the tape swells so that the water cannot penetrate.
-
If you have not mounted a high -water shutter, you can put plastic and a heavy sandbag over your floor drains and toilet to limit ascending sewage. You can also advantageously mount a water protection plug in the floor drain to avoid ascending sewage.
