Homeland’s security is not only dependent on weapons
There is no doubt that most people want peace. However, the events of recent years indicate that we have crossed the border in Europe as well, when peace will no longer be self -evident (or no longer). After Putin has shakenly demolished all the principles of the United Nations (UN) and is joined by Trump and Orbán in expansionist ideas and probably anyone else, even the European Union began to awaken. In my humble opinion, much too late.
In Slovenia, we have apparently forgotten that we have chosen independence with the help and on the basis of Tito’s doctrine of the armed nation and the principle that we need to live as if it would always be peace, and to prepare as if it would be a war tomorrow. And at that time, of course, these principles were not much discussed – understandable that no, since we did not have democracy. Although difficult, we guys and men served a military obligation, and then they distributed us into territorial defense (TO) or in spare units. Most of us, who were not overly spoiled, have overcome the military service with « Drill » without special psychological problems. The same later, when we spent many weekends on additional training. Today, our youngsters, especially in urban environments, mostly prove their fitness at various marathons, in fitness, cycling and similar activities, which is good, but this will generally ignore their weapons in the event of a war. I doubt that you would be able to use a fad for defense, let alone any other defense. This is sad, but very real, as young boys, as well as girls who have been raised in a comfortable home with a mobitel from the cradle onwards, will certainly never be able to accept new circumstances if the current change. But they are not to blame on their own, it is the fault of the generation of politicians who decided on our school and defense system in the years after the independence conflict.
In many ways, I support the thinking of the Left, but I find their resistance to the increase in defense costs entirely frivolous and naive. I do not imagine that by buying a weapon we will be able to defend ourselves against the possible appetites of Orbán or anyone else in our territory, but a potential aggressor must perceive our defense ability. It is true that we are a member of NATO, but in the future it seems that we can only rely on its European part. However, it should be remembered that defense potential does not depend solely on weapons defensive means, it depends exactly the same on the number of trained people to handle and manage it. I am afraid that by leaving the whole burden of our defense to a professional army, we turned on the whole line.
Putin, Netanyahu, Trump (I am very ashamed of this « Slovenian son -in -law ») and some of them are already similar, and they will certainly still change our lives, whether we are right or not. It is by no means my intention to start pessimism, it is just that the time has come when there is a need to create inner peace, stop coming with the left and right, and focusing all the forces in the training of young people in defense skills.
Patriotism has nothing to do with whether we love Janša or Kucan. Patriotism is a completely different value that we should finally define properly once. Undoubtedly, this is not a hatred of foreigners who are willing to contribute to our well -being, not even causing hatred among people. It is certainly patriotic to be a citizen, ready to contribute part of his knowledge and funds to the good of the community, and of course be willing to be prepared to defend the homeland.
