Ilya Vorobyov’s retired is nothing strange, given what this season and the club turned out for him: he was extremely uneven, complete unsuccessful personnel decisions and even scandals, and ended with a painful defeat of the recent League leader in the Play-OFF starting round from the Dynamo Minsk.
The hockey CSKA announced the “termination of cooperation with the coaching staff” “In connection with the failure to fulfill the task” set for the current season of the KHL. Vorobyov’s appointment occurred against the backdrop of a very strange emergency. In 2022, CSKA won the Gagarin Cup, and in 2023 he defended the title of its owner-the rarest example of dominance for the KHL with its high level of competition.

They entrusted the club to the previous level with a specialist with extensive experience and a contradictory career, in which disruptions were adjacent to Gagarin’s cups – both with the same Magnitogorsk residents and the Russian team. Before its beginning, CSKA carried out a little perestroika, parting with a group of famous players – Ivan Fedotov, Sergey Plotnikov, Anton Serepyshov, Darren Ditsa, Andrei Svetlakov. But the avant -garde fell into the apple, who replaced the striker Konstantin Okulov in December, who stood out in the Omsk team on the inconspicuous Cole of Cassels. In March, the army team was stuck into a scandalous story with the leading striker of the club Vladislav Kamenev, who was raising into disqualification due to a positive doping test, and also issued a terrible finish of regular championship. They lost five of his last six matches, dropping to fifth in the table of the Western Conference and having lost the advantage of their site in the starting round of the Gagarin Cup.
In it, CSKA had a chance to face the eternal middle peasant of the KHL Minsk Dynamo. Before that, it never overcame the first stage of Play-off, but the rival tone allowed the Dynamo to break into the second rather confidently. They prevailed in the series in six matches – 4: 2, and in the fifth they managed to defeat the army with a score of 7: 0. The sixth, however, was not much better for CSKA: the metropolitan team lost the power, who then lost to the Minsk, who, in the quarter -finals, knocked out the Tractor without any problems – 2: 6.
