Hit « as if a hand would be waved »

An Icelander who is located in the Spanish city of Bilbao says electricity is back after about two hours of electricity. She says the power failure has hit « as if a hand was waved. »

Kristbjörg Guðmundsdóttir has stayed in Bilbao, which is in northern Spain, in recent days.

« Everyone Goody »

She says she was walking around the city this morning when all the lights suddenly went out. At first, she believed that there was some kind of strike or protest, as she had shortly noticed protests outside the city hall in the city.

Soon, however, it became clear when it was difficult to get into stores.

And this just happened all at once?

« It happened as if a hand was waved and it was all at all. »

« Like everyone was a little wild »

It has been reported that the power failure has had a major impact on traffic, including in Madrid. Kristbjörg, however, says that the traffic in Bilbao was not high and therefore interruptions have become less.

« It was like everyone was a little wild, as they did not know when to stop or when they got started, » says Kristbjörg, mentioning that the same was true of pedestrians, as the pedestrian lights were also inactive.

There was also no telephone connection. Kristbjörg says she intended to take advantage of Google Maps to continue her journey around the city, but the card then referred her « in the carbonless direction ».

« It was as if everything was somehow contactless. »

Flight still home on schedule

She says electricity is now back in the city. When a journalist caught up with her, she was on her way to the airport, on her way home to Iceland, and the power failure does not appear to have affected her flight.

« We were looking at this and the machine is going to go on time. So it seems to be fine. »

In a picture that Kristbjörg took, however, not everyone is as lucky, but at Bilbao airport, flights to Madrid, Barcelona and Lisbon have been canceled.

Kristbjörg's flight to Iceland was still on schedule after the power failure.
