Historical water tower becomes a unique accommodation
It is not the first time that he comes up in a municipal council meeting in Niederanven: the former water tower on the Binnewee in Senningerberg should get a new function. In 1974 it was replaced by a larger water tower. Now he should become a relaxing stop for cyclists. « A new project for the old water tower, » Mayor Fréd Ternes (CSV) presented the second agenda item last Friday.
The responsible architecture firm Mnarchitectes presented its vision for the water tower. Four cyclists should be able to stay in the unusual accommodation. The water tower is slightly modified, but keep its original shape, but experience some changes. « We have to take into account that use changes, » says architect Dirk Schmitt. However, the character of the historical building should be preserved. Some windows are added, and a lot will change inside the tower – the water tower will keep its silhouette from the outside.
« You can do it, » the municipal council Jean Schiltz (LSAP) turns to the architectural office. « This is still the water tower, as it was built in 1914. » But it is important to him that the history of the building is conveyed. Therefore, he suggests attaching an information board with the historical facts. « The project is much closer than other projects before, » emphasizes Déborah Storn (DP). « It is about finding a consensus for modern use without the story being lost. »
The conversion costs amount to over 1.5 million euros. The Ministry of Tourism will cover 40 percent of the costs. It is not about creating new living space, but maintaining the stock. Sleep in the former water tower
The project design for the redesign of the water tower is unanimously accepted in the end. The first travelers are expected to be able to stop there in mid -2027.
