Ukraine will not close high schools and elementary schools in connection with the implementation high school reforms « Profile ».

About it stated in the Ministry of Education and Science.

In recent days, some school chats have been spreading in the high school reform. It causes misunderstanding, anxiety and resistance« , – the department noted.

The Ministry of Education and Science noted that the reform requires the reorganization of a network of educational institutions, but there is no mass closure of schools.

Also, the publication in the department explained what major changes should be ready for students and their parents.

That does not change reform

The Ministry of Education and Science indicates: Gymnasiums and elementary schools (1–9, 5–9, 1–4) will not close. However, reform proposes to change the type of individual educational institutions. Some of them will become lyceums (teach mainly high school students), others – high schools and elementary schools and will collect children of the appropriate age.

For example, in the Sheptytsky community (Lviv region) there is already a reorganization of a network of educational institutions. Now there is one separate academic lyceum (two), most other institutions are gymnasiums (grades 1-9) and one – elementary school (grades 1-4). In the community did not close schools and do not plan« , – explain in the ministry.

The elementary school will remain as close as possible to the child’s place of residence. This provision is regulated by law, it does not require changes.

The reform also does not change the norms for the minimum and maximum number of students in grades 1-9. As before, the minimum number of students is 5, the maximum is 24 in elementary school and 30 – in the base.

What will change reform

The students will be able to independently choose Training profile. In the area where the student lives, the educational institution should offer a variety of profiles, not just humanitarian.

To implement reform requires change the network of educational institutions. Senior students should study in large lyceums: the more students in parallel, the more groups you can create for the choice of profiles and items or courses.

Then it will be possible to offer teachers in the lyceums full load, as well as to provide teaching of profile subjects or courses. Lyceums will also be equipped with the desired equipment« , – explain in the ministry.

The Ministry of Education and Science add that the best option if lyceums are separated, as high school students need other approaches than younger students. In addition, they may have another way of organizing learning (for example, variable groups instead of classes, studying one subject within a semester by a modular principle, etc.).

Where will children learn who will not be able to continue their studies at their school

The Ministry of Education and Science answer this question on two examples.

Option 1: The child studies in grades 1-9, which will become a separate lyceum (will only have 10-12 grades). In this case, the student will be able to continue their studies in grades 1-9 in another educational institution of their community.

Option 2: The child is studying in grades 1-9 that will be a gymnasium (will only have 1-9 grades). Then the student will take up to the 9th grade in this school, and will be able to continue their studies at the lyceum of his or other community, a professional (vocational) or professional higher education.

Will there be funding for lyceum equipment?

Currently, the state allocates funds for equipment for laboratories, workshops. This year, 500 million hryvnias were allocated for pilot 10 classes. For this money, the offices of natural, mathematical and technological educational industries will be equipped.

The government is also recently Highlight Another 500 million hryvnias for the equipment of biology, geography, mathematics, physics, chemistry and STEM laboratories of institutions that will be lyceums since 2027.

Last year, 1.22 million hryvnias were allocated to natural offices, and this year UAH 1.39 billion was allocated to the offices of natural, mathematical industries, inter -sectoral and integrated courses. Some of these equipped establishments will become lyceums.

It is always difficult to implement reforms. The most important thing that educators and politicians should be focused on is the interests of the child and the future of the state.

Parents ask not to be manipulated and critically evaluate information that is subject to reforms » – called in the ministry.

We will remind, we used to reportedthat in 2024 the Ministry of Education and Science selected the first 25 pilot schools that will develop new educational models and recommendations for the reform of the profile school.
