High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security of the European Union, Kaja Kallas towards Tirana


The High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security of the European Union, Kaja Kalas, will visit several countries in the Western Balkans from 7 to 9 April.

In her first visit to the region as the Head of European Diplomacy, Kalas will stay in Montenegro, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The EU announced that on the first day of its tour, in Montenegro the senior European official will meet with President Jakov Millatovic and Prime Minister Milojko Spajic. She will also meet with representatives of civil society.

Montenegro is the state that has advanced most in the region on its way to EU membership.

On April 8, in Albania, there will be meetings with President Bajram Begaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama. The latter will also hold a joint press conference.

In Albania, the Head of European Diplomacy will also meet with the Minister for Europe and European Affairs, Igli Hasani, and the defense, Pirro Vengu.

« She will attend the first meeting of the EU-Albania Safety and Protection Dialogue with ministers Hasani and Vengu.

At the last stop of the Western Balkans, Kalas will stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he will hold meetings with the leaders of the tripartite presidency, with the President of the Council of Ministers and with the Bosnian Foreign Minister and with representatives of the European Force in Bosnia, Euphorus.

During the hearings for her confirmation in the post of chief of EU diplomacy, Kallas had promised to work to make the EU enlargement a reality.

All six Western Balkan countries – besides Kosovo – as well as Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and Turkey are candidates for EU membership.

Kosovo has applied for membership in the European bloc, but its application has not yet been reviewed.
