Hidroelectrica, explanations in flood scandal
The exploitation of the hydropower and navigation system (SHEN) Iron Gates I and the Iron Gates II, between 18 and 26 May 2014, when the Danube debts reached values of over 11,500 mc/s, a situation provided in the Romanian-Serbian documents, it was made in full compliance with the provisions of the operating agreement of 1998 and of the Regulation of the Common Service for the Energy Service, Hidroelectrica, in a statement.
The Hidroelectrica reaction comes from the statements made on Wednesday by Victor Ponta in a podcast, according to which he received the Serbian citizenship because in 2014 he ordered ‘over the Romanian structures to open the Valley from the Iron Gates and in this way the Belgrade was not flooded.
‘The exploitation of the Iron Iron I and the Iron Gates II is regulated by the 1998 exploitation agreement, ratified by the Romanian Parliament with Law 14/1999 by the Regulation of the Common Deputy Energy Service (SCDE) where the period of large water is regulated. For the particular situation from May 18 to 26, 2014, when the Danube debts reached values above 11,500 mc/s, provided in the Romanian-Serbian documents, the exploitation of the Iron I and the Iron Gates II was made in full compliance with the provisions of the Convention and the SCDE Regulation, the level upstream of the Iron Iron Dam being 63.00.
According to the statement, this exploitation rule was provided in the Romanian-Serbian documents in order to be permanently respected for which for large flows on the Danube (over 11,500 cubic/s) and small (below 2,350 cubic/s) the levels upstream of the mouth of Nerei and downstream of the Iron Gates II to be the ones in the natural regime, without the influence of the two systems, as there are no natural ones (as well as the two systems. In these regimes, the hourly flow that is defluated downstream is equal to the tributary one in the Iron Gates Lake I.
‘From the common exploitation data with the Serbian part it turns out that the maximum tributary flow in the Iron I gates during this period was 12,600 mc/s, a debit registered several times in the common exploitation. The operating rules of the iron Iron I and Iron Gates II represent legal provisions between the two countries’, underlined in the statement.
The independent candidate for presidential Victor Ponta told in an online show that he received Serbian citizenship after, in 2014, during the floods, as prime minister, he ordered ‘over the Romanian structures to open the Valley from the Iron Gates and in this way the Belgrade was not flooded.
« Only a suburb was flooded, but if I didn’t open the iron gates, Belgrade floods, » Ponta said.
He stated that it was initially refused to open the Iron Gates ‘because the Romanian side was flooded’.
‘And flooded. But I talked to ISU, I moved people, I gave damages quickly. You didn’t find out anything, the press. They were villages, downstream, « Ponta said.
He stated that, later, by a decision of the Belgrade Parliament, he received Serbian citizenship, stressing that this is ‘an honorary citizenship’ and that, meanwhile, he has filed for his renunciation.
