Hesperingen: Marc Lies resigns as mayor

At 4:21 p.m., the 56-year-old made a statement at the end of the public session. « It has been extremely difficult for me. But my mental health has deteriorated in recent years. There are other health problems. I am grateful to have led the fortunes of the community. But at some point you also have to see how much you can put up with yourself and people next to yourself, » said Marc on Monday afternoon.

He had left his resignation to the Grand Duke. The municipal law provides that resignation must also be submitted to the Grand Duke, which then accepts it. In addition, the municipal law says that the local council determines the successor. This nomination then receives the Grand Duke in turn. The emerging mayor has to exercise his office until the new one has taken the oath with the Interior Minister.

He wanted to lead the next municipal council meeting in July, after which it was over. He will no longer be represented in the local council.

Marc Lies became a member of the municipal council in 1999. In 2009 he followed his party colleague Marie-Thérèse Gantenbein at the head of the community. The 56-year-old has also been a member of the parliament since 2008. In his speech, he did not go into whether the same step is followed.
