Here there are hundreds of panties in the streets: « Next Sunday there will be more than 7,000 » (Moorslede)

In Slypskapelle (Moorslede) a few dozen volunteers started this weekend with a very remarkable assignment. In the run -up to the SlipkensParade on Sunday 1 June, they hang out more than 7,000 panties in the area of the church.
The residents of Slypskapelle, a part of the West-Flemish Moorslede, count down to Sunday 1 June. Then there is not only the annual flea market, but also the SlipkensParade. 25 years after more than 4,000 panties flew in the street scene, the residents started collecting underpants this spring.
« We place tons and boxes at different locations. It was crazy how many people poured their superfluous underpants. We sometimes had to empty the ton on the church here in Slypskapelle up to three times a week, » says Jean-Luc Deprez.

Not just the church
More than 7,000 panties have already been collected. « From men, women and children. All washed of course. » More than a week before the flea market, the first panties were given a place in the streets this weekend.
« Compared to the action of 25 years ago, the panties flutter in different places. The surroundings of the church are re -open, but also in the pastori garden, Waterstraat and part of the Strobomestraat hang underpants. We started to hang the panties early so that we will certainly have everything ready by 1 June. »
