Here the police are printing no speeding fines
One of the country’s most popular highway sections warns against speed control – but it doesn’t fit.

The sign promises active speed control. Radar, camera, consequence.
But for two years, thousands of motorists have rushed over the Great Belt Bridge without as much as a jerk. Because there are no fines. No enforcement. And has never been there.

Since 2023, motorists have met large signs with the message of active surveillance, but all indications are that most of all is symbolic policy on asphalt. Because even though Sund & Bælt has equipped the bridge with technology that can measure the average speed, not a single fine has been discharged for speeding.

The explanation? The police will not use the documentation. The measurements – which are actually designed to spot speed culprits via license plate scan – do not hold as evidence in a lawsuit.
The result is that all violations are rejected. Whenever.
Otherwise, the bridge was intended to be part of the solution to speed problems on the Danish roads. Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard reported a quick solution in the autumn. But that solution seems to be waiting, and so far only the signs work.
In the middle of it all, Sund & Bælt points to their equipment working properly. But without legal validity, the system is like a car without a motor – it looks right, but comes nowhere.
According to Ekstra Bladet, the case has developed into a circus of slowness, where responsibilities are thrown around the police, Sund & Bælt and the Road Directorate. But now something indicates that there is still light ahead.
« We expect the permanent speed control to be in operation during the 4th quarter of 2025, » says the Road Directorate, which promises that crates will be part of the solution.
The automatic cameras are already known from other parts of the country and have proved far more effective than creative warnings without bottom. But until the installations are in place, drivers can continue to enjoy a drive across the bridge – without the risk of other than a little wind.
The signs are still blinking, but no one is watching.
