The Travel Card disappears in 2026

According to Rejsekort & Rejseplan A/S, the decision to phase out the physical travel card is due to the fact that the blue stands are about to have their technological life and are expensive to maintain:

« We know many people have held on to the plastic card because they couldn't take more people on their check into the app. But that challenge is solved now, » says Jens Willars.

For users who do not have the opportunity or want to use an app, the company is working on an alternative solution to remind you of the physical travel card.

The transition from plastic cards to app is gradually happening.

During 2025, more features will be added to the Travel Card app that it can replace the card completely.

Jens Willars explains that experiences with major launches within the travel card system have not been positive.

Therefore, a gradual implementation of new features in the app has been chosen as it both minimizes errors and ensures that schedules and budgets are observed.

Among the upcoming features of the app is the opportunity to check in as a child, pensioner under 67 and person with disabilities.

Since the app was launched in September 2024, nearly 900,000 users have put it into use, and with the latest additions, the road is paved for the travel card to soon belong to the past.
