Here is the world's most intelligent dog breed
The dog, most of all used as a police and watchdog, has many physical similarities to the shepherd dog, including height and color, but it is more easily built, according to the American Kennel Club.
But what is it that makes this race superior to others?
The study, published in the scientific journal Scientific Reports, included 1,002 dogs from 13 different breeds. From this it appears that the researcher had prepared a number of « Smartdog Tests », which thus had to measure the dogs' ability to remember, solve problems, control impulses, read human movements, copy behavior and think logically.
They did this among the following tests:
-
V-detour testing: The dog had to find a detour around a transparent V-shaped fence to reach a feed reward to test its ability to solve problems.
-
Reading human movements: The dog had to respond to five different types of movements, including constant point, short point, pointing with the foot, pointing in a different direction and following a man's gaze.
-
Insoluble tasks: The dog should try to get food from a box that could not be opened, which measured its independence and ability to ask a human for help.
The Belgian Malinois achieved an impressive 35 out of 39 possible points on these tests and thus placed itself as the most intelligent race in the study. Border Collien came in second place with 26 points, while the Hovawart Hound took third place with 25 points.
However, the team behind the study quickly points out that each race has its unique strengths and weaknesses. Some breeds score high in certain tests, but low in others, reflecting different abilities and behavior patterns.
