Electric car sales are still growing

According to data from BilStatistik.dk, in April, 9,566 new electric cars were registered, which is 45.5 percent more than in April 2024.

The electric cars accounted for 63.3 percent of car sales in April, and among the private car purchases, the electric cars accounted for 86 percent.

The great success of electric cars in Denmark means that the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Supply has just upgraded their forecast for the development of electric cars in their latest climate writing, where they expect that already by 2028 there will be 1 million electric cars in Denmark. It benefits the green transition.

« We agree with the climate writing that the number of electric cars will continue to grow in the coming years, and we even think we can turn up the ambitions even more, » says Mads Rørvig, CEO of Mobility Denmark, and continues:

« But the development does not come by itself, and the experience of our neighboring countries has shown that electric car sales can quickly lose ground if incentives are removed. Therefore, it is important for politicians to grab the historical opportunity to create a car taxation that permanently strengthens the Danes’ opportunities to buy greener cars by abolishing the registration fee on electric cars. »
