Hepatitis A is an epidemic in Hungary, how can this be? This disease is rare in developed countries.

– That’s right. Surprisingly, such an epidemic has performed, and in the country’s most advanced region, Budapest, Pest and Fejér counties. Hepatitis-A virus is common in war zones, after earthquakes, floods, and is common in developing countries. The disease is caused by so -called feces, which is extremely rare in developing countries. I do not know what to do with what to do now, the local cases need to be investigated, and then the appropriate findings can be made.

Who is most affected by this disease and what are your symptoms?

– Anyone, everyone is susceptible to children and young adults, at the age of 20. Once someone has undergone infection, they will get life -long protection. Symptoms occur quite late, 2-3 weeks after infection, so it is difficult to determine the cause often. First, belly pain will occur, the urine will be dark and the faeces will be light and fluid. Later, jaundice, skin and mucous membranes will appear, so the protein of the eyes, mouth, and eyes will also be yellowish. But asymptomatic infection is also common. The virus can only be handed over to each other.

How can we defend themselves?

– Increase your personal hygiene, wash your hands often, wash your fruits, vegetables and salads, and heat your food as much as possible. The virus is infected with mouth, food or drinking water. There is a vaccine, but it is optional and not free. Generally recommended, which means that if the disease occurs somewhere, people living around the patients are vaccinated.

Have you previously been similar in our country?

– In Hungary, the virus first appeared in segregates in previous years, with the last major epidemic in Jászapátin. And 20 years ago, during the Great Tisza flood, there was an epidemic in the Upper Tisza region at the local level. None of the current cases have reached the current number, now the situation is worse than it was then.
