Henry IV Probus, unlucky Polish prince

Henry IV Probus, unlucky Polish prince

After returning to Silesia, he was met by the hard realities of the feverish country. And so at night on February 18, 1277, the 20-year-old arriving at the castle in Jelcz, his own uncle Bolesław II Rogatka attacked his own uncle. A territorial conflict took place in the background. Rogatka claimed the right to 1/3 of the lands of the Duchy of Wrocław, and when he met with refusal, he no longer played with diplomacy. He imprisoned his nephew at the castle in Wleń and began to occupy the disputed lands.

More princes joined the conflict. Industry II from Wielkopolska and Henry III from Głogów stood behind Henryk. The prince’s problems wanted to turn Otto V from Brandenburg and Greater Poland to Bolesław Pobożny.
