Hellvig warns PNL. « Speed » without predictability is no longer an option, leadership is needed
Eduard Hellvig, the former director of the SRI, sent a powerful message, on the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the National Liberal Party, in which he underlines the need for a « deep internal reform » and a « leadership to inspire and re-construct confidence in liberalism ».
Eduard Hellvig said that at a century and a half of liberalism, « PNL is looking for a new compass », in order to keep its relevance in the current difficult context.
« At 150 years of liberalism in Romania, PNL is looking for a new compass. The National Liberal Party would have been worth, as a reference party of our history, to celebrate its centenary and half under a serene sky. But it welcomes it in a crossing the correct path.
I was saying on the previous anniversary that « to remain relevant, today’s PNL, and especially tomorrow, it has to change the speed, and increase the pace. It is not enough to go inertially in the past of some successes or of partners that represent other values. It is not enough to inspire from the apparently similar parties, but not the interest, but not the interest, but it does not on network X.
Hellvig emphasized the need for the party to « reinvent » the way of approaching politics and to change the paradigm dee promotion of « Liberal democracy in an infinitely more complicated world. »
« A year away, unfortunately, the message remains current. It is no longer just about adjusting a few teams, changing a few screws or correcting some point routes. The real challenge is about reinventing the way we do politics, more courage from the young promises that are in the second line of the party than that of 1989 and incomparable to that of 1875. ” said the Liberal.
Eduard Hellvig drew a few directions
« What does a new liberal paradigm mean?
– authentic unit, not a display case, with transparent decisions, competence in the face of loyalty and directions that inspire confidence, not fear.
– deep internal reform, ie clear rules, bottom meritocracy and opening to new people and even specialists from outside the party.
– the agenda for the present and future, with an opening to the digital economy, modern infrastructure, promoting European and national values at the same time, but also with real support for entrepreneurship and social mobility.
-Defense of liberal democracy in the context of new technological and ideological pressures, through a constant partnership with civil society, respect for institutions and firm reaction to informative poisoning or liberal temptations. ”, Stated Hellvig.
« For PNL, » speed « without predictability is no longer an option; Leadership is needed to inspire and re-construct confidence in liberalism as the main way to freedom, prosperity and democratic balance.
Our party would have deserved a better anniversary. Possibly with a victory. It wasn’t. Probably each of us, today’s Liberals, should have done more and better to cross the political traffic jam.
If we manage to transform the anniversary from a strictly commemorative moment (because this is now, after recent results) into a strategic restart, the party can return to the race with the engines correctly and with popularly invigorated support. If not, we risk that the 150 -year -old holiday will remain only a stop in the traffic jam, a museum of missed opportunities. ”, Concluded Eduard Helvig.
