A kilo of a bronte can be 45-50 thousand forints, its popularity, so its price increases steeply year by year. It is no wonder, therefore, that about three thousand hectares of pistachio on the ground are regularly trying to raid. That is why security professionals and police protect the trees day and night, and even during the harvest, the authorities even deploy helicopter.

Bronte is a year of € 20 million ($ 8 billion) a year, which is barely 1 percent of global pistachio production. The largest buyer is France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan and the United States.

Its sweet aroma and soft meat are so unique that it typically does not roast or salt it. Sicily pride is a popular ingredient in Michelin-starred restaurants, but it is used in the sweets industry, can appear in dough sauce, or in the famous local rice dumplings, Arancini.

Not only emerald -green luxury seeds, but also « simpler » varieties are extremely macerated, which is why they ask for wealth for them. To harvest, for example, it is advisable only in the evening or at night because of the sunlight the leaves of the pistachio tree emit toxic essential oils that can cause nausea and dizziness. In fact, even transportation is not harmless: due to its extreme high fat content, pistachio is prone to self -inflammation, so it requires special attention to export.
