Helicopter crashes in New York – apparently at least three deaths

A helicopter has an accident in the US million metropolis of New York. This was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the police German press agency. So far, however, there has been no further secure information. According to reports, several people were found in the helicopter. Emergency services approached the scene of the accident with boats, like the New York Times wrote. As a result, the helicopter drove in the Hudson River before Manhattan. The TV station ABC reported of three fatalities. The police did not confirm this at first.

Not far from the alleged scene of the accident, a pilot had spectacularly landed on the Hudson in 2009, without anyone being injured.

Helicopter part of the New York everyday life

You can constantly see helicopters in Manhattan who mostly have tourists on board or bring rich business people to their next appointment or to the airport. Many New Yorkers are not only too loud, but after accidents, especially after accidents, there had always been debates about security in the densely populated metropolis with hundreds of skyscrapers.

There are rules that helicopters are not allowed to fly over the center of Manhattan without special permission. Most pilots take off on the edge of the island and fly over the East River and the Hudson.

Again and again accidents with helicopters in New York

For thousands of holidaymakers in New York, a sightseeing flight over the city of the million is part of the mandatory program, for some the few minutes over Manhattan – for which you pay hundreds of dollars – are the climax. A number of companies also have their sights on business people.

Already in May 2019, a helicopter that was out of control had fallen into the Hudson River. The pilot was able to save itself with a jump into the water. A short time later, a helicopter crashed into a high -rise roof and went up in flames. (dpa)
