Waasmunster

The Kerkstraat in Waasmunster was startled on Tuesday evening by a blazing fire in an apartment building. Five people, including a child, were taken to the hospital with smoke intoxication.

The fire started around 8 pm on the front of the apartment building in the center of Waasmunster. A seat that stood in front of the building may have been set on fire. The flames quickly spread to a piece of wooden cladding on the ground floor and quickly spread up. Fortunately, the fire station is just behind the corner, so the fire brigade was on site very quickly.

No more direction

The residents present could not go anywhere and could only be brought out after the flames were under control. Five people, including a child, breathed in too much smoke and were taken to the hospital for care. Fortunately, nobody was ready for it. A fire expert from the public prosecutor came to the scene for research.

Temporarily uninhabitable

Certainly one apartment is temporarily uninhabitable. Another is not, but the residents chose to spend the night elsewhere. The upper apartment in the building has been inhabited for a few months by a couple that was also targeted in October last year by a arson. The couple then lived in a flat on the Molendreef in Waasmunster.

Not much later the couple moved to Kerkstraat via the OCMW. Since then they have caused nuisance. « There is loud music and a fight every night. A few weeks ago a television flew through the window during another fight between the couple, » says the local residents. For them the size is full and they want the municipality and the OCMW to take steps. The size is also full for Waasmunsters Mayor Jurgen Bauwens (CD&V), who came to the scene. He agrees that measures must be taken.(PVS)
