Heavy fire after possible arson in the beach bar in Antwerp: suspect arrested (left bank)
A heavy fire is raging on the Jachthavenweg on the Left Bank on Thursday evening. The fire is accompanied by a plume of smoke that is visible to the right bank. The fire may have been lit, the police could arrest a suspect shortly after the facts.
The fire started around 7.30 pm in the wooden chalet of Cabane. That is one of the two event locations of Stranwerpen, a popular beach bar on the Left Bank. On arrival of the teams of fire brigade zone Antwerp, the fire was sprouting.
The fire brigade immediately attacked the fire. Because the fire was accompanied by a serious smoke development, a BE-Alert was sent to all residents on the Left Bank as a precaution. It was asked to keep windows and doors closed and eliminate ventilation.

The fire brigade is still busy with the extinguishing work. The fire is not easy to extinguish. « The building cannot be entered, so that the fire must be largely fought from the outside, » explains spokesman Jasmien O of the Antwerp Antwerp fire brigade.
Nobody was injured, at the time of the fire there was fortunately no event going on in Cabane. The fire may be lit. Shortly after the facts, the police were able to arrest a suspect near the campsite. « His involvement in the facts will be investigated, » says police spokesman Kim Bastiaens.
According to guests who stay at the campsite, the police are still looking for a second suspect. They noticed during the week that unsolicited guests stayed near the beach bar.
