Health status of Guy D’Haeseleer remains « bad but stable »: « His family has had a hard and emotionally difficult weekend » (Ninove)

The liver values of Ninoof’s mayor Guy D’Haeseleer (56) are still bad but stable, while the search for a suitable donor liver continues. Vlaams Belang reports this to our editors. « Guy will stay in the hospital for the time being. »

« As was to be expected, Guy and his family have had a very heavy and emotional difficult weekend, with a lot of heights and lows. The search for a suitable liver is still in full swing. The liver values of Guy are still bad but stable. The search for a suitable liver is certainly unabated, » reports the perspective of Flemish. « Guy will stay in the hospital for the time being. The objective is and remains a liver transplant. »

In the communication of the party, the Van D’haeseleer family also expresses her thanks « for the peace that they have been awarded in recent days ».

Guy d’haeseleer was urgently admitted to the hospital almost two weeks ago and taken to the intensive care department of UZ Gent. Although his condition initially seemed to stabilize, it has since been established that a liver transplant is necessary. If a suitable donor liver becomes available and the results of a viewing operation are positive, the transplant can take place in the short term.

Waiting lists

The search for a suitable donor runs via Eurotransplant, the international network for organ donation. The positive blood group of D’Haeseleer is favorable, but the size of the donor organ must also be correct. « There is a large shortage of donor livers and other organs, and the waiting lists are often long, » liver specialist Jef Verbeek (UZ Leuven) said to our editors earlier.

D’Haeseleer became the first Vlaams Belang mayor in Flanders earlier this year. An acting mayor has been appointed within the Ninove board: Ilse Malfoot (Forza Ninove) is currently taking over the powers of D’Haeseleer.
