It was supposed to be another ordinary duty, another health and life to save. But on Saturday, May 17, in Toruń, rescuers heard something other than « help ». They heard insults, threats and scream.
Attack on rescuers in Toruń
The 37-year-old lay bloody on the pavement. Instead of gratitude, he only showed aggression. He didn’t want anyone to get closer to him. He threw insults, threatened to death. He finally jerked one of the rescuers. The attacker who looked like a victim became a threat himself.
The police appeared on the spot. A moment later the man was already lying on earth. He was drunk. Despite his resistance, he was assisted in the hospital. It turned out that his injuries were superficial. After dressing, he went straight to the police cell.
Allegations for the aggressor
The case has its further consequences.
– The suspect heard allegations of managing punishable threats and insulting medical rescuers. He was covered by police supervision, was banned from contacting the victims, and a property guarantee was applied to him – says asp. Dominika Stork from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Toruń.
They feel more and more fears
There are up to 3 years in prison for these crimes. The court will be decided by the court. But regardless of the judgment, there is anxiety, which is more and more resonated in the medical environment.
Doctors and rescuers admit directly: they have never felt so threatened during work. Instead of gratitude, they are increasingly encountering aggression. After an orthopedist doctor died at the University Hospital in Krakow, the medical community demands changes. The doctor’s mother foundation submitted a petition to the Minister of Health. He wants protection, and above all – a register of aggressive patients. It is to be a warning system. Because – as the medics say – it’s about life.
