He faces 8 years in prison
On Tuesday, May 27, the District Court in Krosno accepted the application of the District Prosecutor’s Office and applied to 39-year-old Michał R. temporary arrest for three months. On Wednesday (May 28), this information was confirmed in the official announcement of the District Prosecutor, Dr. Monika Kaszubowicz. As reported, the basis of the decision was the organizer’s severe punishment and the real fear of mathematics.
Michał R. from the company Amazing Events, before he went to court, on the same day in the prosecutor’s office he heard the allegation of bringing danger to the life and health of many people and inadvertently causing injuries in 17 participants of the event – by grossly failing to comply with obligations in the scope of ensuring the safety of the event. The man pleaded not guilty and refused to explain.
« There was no adequate security zone »
The list of deficiencies and errors that investigators represent is long.
– Places for the audience have not been properly secured. There was a lack of dams of high mass, which could stop the speeding car – prosecutor Monika Kaszubowicz said at a press conference.
BMW broke through the barriers and foil tape. The recordings show that the fans were outside the designated zone. The organizer was to know about it and … he did nothing.
« He dropped responsibility on the participants »
The regulations of the competition appeared that the participation is « voluntary and at your own responsibility » – even in the context of the risk of losing life. The prosecutor’s office has no doubt: such entries are irrelevant to the organizer’s duties. And they do not protect him from criminal liability.
What about the BMW driver?
27-year-old Patryk Z., who on Sunday (May 25) raced with his father on the track and lost control of BMW, did not go to custody. He has police supervision, a ban on traveling and he had to pay 100,000 PLN guarantee. Like the organizer, he does not plead guilty, but he said that « he could make mistakes. » In his case, the allegation concerns: bringing danger to the life and health of many people and inadvertently causing injuries of varying severity.
Patryk, who participated in the unlucky race, was to be there for the second time. Investigators check whether his car – officially having 500 horsepower – was not additionally « tuned ». Virtually everyone could take part in the event. It was enough to pay the entry fee, and the organizers allowed cars with enormous power without accurate technical controls. Could it be a ticking bomb?
One of the victims has a serious brain trauma
The police initially informed about 18 victims. Later, the prosecutor’s office specified this number – ultimately 17 people are talking. Some of them were released home after medical assistance. What were the injuries? According to the prosecutor’s office – different degrees, from lighter to serious:
- One person suffered a serious craniopulmonary injury,
- five have bones and pelvis fractures,
- The others have numerous bruises.
Suspects are threatened with 8 years in prison.
