Wife Anna N. was then taken by the perpetrators to an ING bank branch in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, where she was obliged to open a safe. The woman worked for a company that is responsible for, among other things, filling ATMs and had the codes needed to get the money.

The 50-year-old woman, however, managed to notify the police, who could later stick the two perpetrators, together with the loot of 380,580 euros. Soon the investigators who investigated the case also looked in the direction of the victims. Both Hassan K. and his wife were arrested and had to answer for the correctional court.

Confessions

The Public Prosecutor of Halle-Vilvoorde demanded 5 years in prison against the family man, who turned out to be the brain behind the entire operation. The man has always denied the facts, but went down shortly before the start of the process.

« In the meantime he has lost everything, » his lawyer argued. « His wife left him for facts he should never have committed. He and Anna had no financial problems. But he had the idea and had access to the tablet and the codes of his wife. She was not aware of the whole event, but a couple simply shares many things with each other. Anna is a fair woman. She would never have brought her children into this situation. »

Divorce

The prosecutor doubted the involvement of the wife of the main suspect and progressed the acquittal. « There are a number of suspicious elements, but they are not enough to explain to her, » said prosecutor Martin François. « In the end, N. is the person who has notified the police. And since the confessions of her husband, the couple has been separated. It seems very much to me that their divorce has also been set in scene to boost her credibility. »

The court followed the public prosecutor’s office and spoke Anna N. Vrij. According to the judge, the woman was not aware of her husband’s plans. « The acquittal of my client makes me satisfied, » says Master Amber Nibli, the woman’s lawyer. « There were only suspicions and no concrete evidence. My confidence in her innocence has now been confirmed by the judgment of the court. »

Hassan K. was convicted and was given 6 years in prison, which is higher than the claim of the public prosecutor’s office. His two companions each received 5 years in prison, half of which with delay.
