“He can’t show emotion or empathy”
Along the historic Hærvej, where the tramp path meanders through the Jutland landscape, the audience will soon be allowed to follow a somewhat unusual hiking man: Prince Joachim.
Together with author Steffen Jacobsen, he embarks on the route in a new documentary, which premieres on DR1 on Saturday 8 June.
This is not the first time the Prince and the author meet in front of the camera. The two encountered each other during the footage of the series « Prince Joachim tells, » and according to court expert Trine Larsen the chemistry was obvious. It has turned into another tale – this time in hiking boots.
But it is not only Denmark that unfolds in beautiful panoramic recordings. During the film, the prince beats cracks in the otherwise well -polished surface. The audience gets a glimpse of the pages that are usually hidden away behind royal protocols. This applies to both a traumatic car accident in France, the breach of Countess Alexandra and the role, emotions – or the absence of them – play in his life.
Halfway inside the documentary, he unveils why he himself describes himself as « socially disabled ». It’s not about inability, but about expectations. Having to act royal and numb at the same time has left its mark – and that is precisely clearly clear as he has difficulty responding as Jacobsen opens up his cancer.
