Hazardous substance use: Customers had to persevere over an hour

When using the CGDI’s hazardous substance unit on Tuesday in the « Grand Frais » supermarket in Wickringen, the situation was different for customers than was previously known. They were held more than an hour and were not allowed to leave the supermarket.

This was said by a leading Grand Frais employee to the « Luxemburger Word » and thus confirmed a report by « L’Assiel« From Thursday. » Nobody was allowed to leave the business during the mission and nobody could get in, « said the employee. On Tuesday at around 6 p.m., a supermarket employee had noticed a white powder on a packaging, which he had suspicious.

Then the alarm was triggered and the Groupe de Protection Contre Les Risques Nucléaires, Radiologiques, Biologiques et Chimiques (NRBC) moved in with a large device. The police blocked the street.

Long waiting in the parking lot

In the parking lot, the police told the waiting customers that they should stay in their cars. According to « L’Essinte », the officers also noted the number plates of the cars. The situation was particularly uncomfortable for customers inside the business. They were allowed to move freely, but they were only able to leave the supermarket when the use was ended around 7:20 p.m.

The examined substance later turned out to be harmless. It was probably dietary supplements that had expired from a pack.
