Haxhiu’s candidacy does not withdraw, we will have 61 votes for government

Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister, at the same time leader of the Self -Determination Movement (LVV), Albin Kurti, stated that Albulena Haxhiu’s candidacy for Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo is a party decision and will not withdraw. « Do not make this negative game. We must respect each other’s proposals and have a merit-based leadership, » Kurti said in an interview with Kosovo Radio and Television, broadcast on Tuesday evening.

Although the proposal for Parliament Speaker is the exclusive right of the Election winner, the LVV, Haxhiu is considered a divisive figure by two parliamentary parties: the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, which require the LVV to derive another name for the Parliament Speaker. The process of constituting the Assembly of Kosovo has stalled precisely in the election of the Parliament Speaker. MPs must elect the chairman and the five vice presidents to finally constitute the new Assembly. Only after the constitution of the Assembly can the new government be formed.

Kurti said that during the government formation process, it will be ready for compromises and concessions. Kurti mentioned the minorities as well as Fatmir Limaj’s Social Democratic initiative as possible. Those who doubt whether he has enough votes to form the government, Kurti told them: « Test me. » According to him, a ruling coalition with the Democratic League of Kosovo, with minorities and with the initiative could secure up to 80 votes in the Assembly. He confirmed that there were meetings with Limaj and an increase in trust between them, but not a concrete agreement.

Kurti announced that one of the prerequisites of the initiative was the position of the Speaker of Parliament – a request that, according to him, was not possible to fulfill, as the Initiative provided only three MPs in the Assembly. However, Kurti expressed his willingness to co -govern with the initiative. « Our goal is to have a new government, which is new in composition. There will no doubt be surprised and changes in the cabinet, » he said.
