Have to close a store because of « human mistakes »

Net store that had already been opened in Glæsibær has been closed for the sixth week. The store’s window says that it is closed due to technical difficulties, but not all the story is told and human mistakes are involved.

Gunnur Líf Gunnarsdóttir, Managing Director of Commercial and Human Resources at Samkaupum, says that the store is ready in full and it is all the most spectacular. It was open for one day at the end of March, but Samkaup had to close the store a day later.

Need a new operating license

« We fell down a lightweight wall to connect two spaces and believed that we had an operating license, but it was a human mistake for us not to read better about it, » says Gunnur.

By folding down the wall, two retail spaces were associated with the restaurant Saffran and the Icelandic supermarket.

« When the wall was canceled, we needed a new operating license. We opened the store in good faith for one day, but as we realized that we needed a new operating license, we closed it, » says Gunnur.

Disability

She says that an application for a new operating license has been for several weeks at the City of Reykjavik, but a holiday and other things have prevented the matter from being addressed.

« This is a tens of millions for us and this is extremely sorry. We are trying to do this as fast as we can but can’t control the city, » says Gunnur. She reiterates, however, that the mistake lies with Samkaup.

Final Audit after

The next meeting of the City of Reykjavik Planning Representative is on Tuesday. After a permit has been granted, a final audit must be made so that residents near Glæsibær have to wait for their own for the store to be reopened.

The store is ready in all respects.

« But we are very excited to open the store for customers, » says Gunnur.

Samkaup operates Nettó, Iceland and Krambúðir and supermarket in the countryside, but according to Gunnar, the aim is to close the company’s Iceland stores.
