Harvey Weinstein found partly guilty in re -treatment abuse case

The American former film producer Harvey Weinstein was found to be guilty of sexual abuse by a jury in New York and was acquitted of a second indictment of a minor actress in 2002. A third complaint, of a rape in 2013, the jury has not yet taken a decision-that will be discussed on Thursday. That report American media that were present at the jury’s ruling.

For the offense for which Weinstein has been convicted, a maximum prison sentence of twenty -five years applies. The jury’s decision follows from the re -treatment of Weinstein’s case from 2020. At the time, he was found guilty of sexual abuse in 2006 and a rape in 2013. Weinstein was given a imprisonment of 23 years for this. The indictment of the minor actress was not there yet.

Last spring, however, the New York Court of Appeal decided that « unheard of mistakes » were made during the court case against Weinstein. The criminal court had allowed the prosecutor to testify four women about meetings that had nothing to do with the charges for which Weinstein was standing. The professional judge thought that these testimonies « damage the suspect, but do not shed light on the charged offenses. »

The 73-year-old Weinstein remained stuck despite that judgment. That has to do with another conviction: in 2022 he was sentenced in the state of California to sixteen years in prison for a rape. Weinstein’s New York case was the first major criminal case in the #Metoo movement, which started by publications about the film producer in The New York Times and The New Yorker.
