A jury jury in Manhattan spoke Harvey Weinstein guilty on Wednesday in a new trial for a sex crime. The procedure took place after an appellate court in the state had lifted the original judgment of 2020 against the former film producer last year.

Weinstein, once one of the most influential men in Hollywood, was accused by the public prosecutor of raping a prospective actress and sexually attacking two other women. The 73-year-old advocated not guilty and denied any attacks or non-mutually sexual contact. In her final plea on June 3, the prosecutors told the twelve jurors. The evidence clearly showed how Weinstein used his power and influence to manipulate and abuse women.

The defense, on the other hand, kept that the plaintiffs had lying under oath after their mutual sexual relationships with the Oscar-winning producer had not led to the hoped-for fame in Hollywood.

Agree after five days

After five days, the jurors agreed on a judgment with sometimes tense consultations. The new process started on April 23. Due to health problems, Weinstein took part in the process in a wheelchair.

In the current procedure, Weinstein was accused of having sexually attacked the prospective actress Jessica Mann in 2006 sexually and in 2002 Kaja Sokola, a 16-year-old young actress, sexually abused Kaja Sokola. In the 2020 trial, Weinstein had already been guilty of rape of men and the attack on Haley. At that time, Sokola’s accusations were not part of the process.

However, the state court of the state of New York, the state’s highest court, highlighted this judgment in April 2024. It decided that the judge at the time made a mistake by allowed other women to testify, although their allegations were not the subject of the indictment. Although the sentence of 2020 was lifted, Weinstein remained in custody-due to a further conviction in California in 2022 due to rape, which led to a 16-year prison sentence. Weinstein is currently appealing against this judgment.

Accused of more than 100 women

More than 100 women, including prominent actresses, have accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct. The resumption of the procedure was led by prosecutors from the district prosecutor’s office of Manhattan, Alvin Bragg. They described Weinstein as series offenders who promised women career opportunities in Hollywood, just to lure and attack them in private situations.

The defense rejected this presentation and said that Weinstein had been found in « mutually advantageous » relationships with the plaintiffs who, in return, came for sexual contacts with castings and other professional opportunities.
