Harmony requires a full -volume restart / day

Commenting on the weak performance of « Harmony » in the municipal elections in Riga, the politician told LETA that what had been taken into account, taking into account the party’s chosen path in February 2022.

Now, after losing in Riga, the party needs full restart, Ushakov said, adding that the question is whether the party will be able to do so.

« Everyone needs to exhale and sleep after this marathon. We are in crisis restart since February 2022, » the politician said. Ushakov will focus on developing a new generation in the party, while the restart would mean a partnership search in the current fragmentation. Ushakov does not disclose what partnerships might be.

The party leader said that there was a highly higher activity in these elections, which unevenly split among the parties. Similarly, these elections were largely about hatred. Riga, on the other hand, « got the same coalition of change that was able to break two years ago ».

« Harmony » will talk to each other about what happened and look for solutions to understand the party’s opportunities to start in next year’s Saeima elections.

As reported, in the last local elections, the biggest losers could be called the « Harmony » party, while the highest successes in Riga missed the parties « Latvia in the first place » (LPV) and « Latvia for Development », Lelde Metla-Rozentale, a lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Riga Stradins University, said in a conversation with LETA.

The political scientist said that in the context of the overall elections, « Harmony » was quite large, as the party did not only gain seats in the Riga City Council, but also elsewhere in Latvia, such as Liepaja and Daugavpils City Council. Thus, in her opinion, this loss raises questions about the party’s further existence.

It has also been reported that approximately 40 new deputies have been elected to the Riga City Council, which will change two -thirds of the councilors, according to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission.

The biggest changes are related to the entry of Ainars Slesers (LPV) party « Latvia in the first place » (LPV) to the council and the part of the « Harmony » party.

The LPV Riga City Council has not been represented so far, but has now won 13 deputies. Meanwhile, « Harmony », which currently contains 11 deputies, is not elected to the City Council, so all 11 « Harmony » members will lose their positions.

LPV has won the highest number of votes in the local elections in the Riga City Council, but the Progressive and NA have also achieved very close results, according to the preliminary election results compiled by the Central Election Commission.

Voter activity in Riga reached 52.2%in these elections.
