Haribo will then repay the shipping costs to affected consumers who respond to the recall of kilo bags of sour cola bottles, after the find of cannabis in the candy. According to the consumer organization Testaankoop, that was not clear. Haribo says it is a misunderstanding.
Traces of Cannabis were recently discovered in Haribo cola bottles. That happened after several people in the Netherlands, both children and adults, had fallen ill after eating the cola bottles. Later it turned out that one child was even in a coma for a while because of the candy.
It is about kilo bags from the product Happy Cola F! ZZ, with an expiration date until January 2026. As a precaution, the candy manufacturer called back the full stock throughout the Benelux.
Recreases of foods occur regularly, says Tewelkoop. But most of the time the product has to be returned to the store where it was purchased and the consumer gets his money back there. This time the procedure is different: Haribo asks Belgian consumers not to bring the product back to the store, but to send it packed with the content and their bank details to their address in Kontich. The purchase price will then be repaid.
Testlekoop complained that the shipping costs could increase considerably, with a package that can weigh more than a kilo. In the meantime, the consumer organization has had contact with Haribo and the candy manufacturer says it will repay the shipping costs, just like the purchase amount.
