Haralds Plaudis / Day was elected to the Chairman of the Board of RAKUS
The swing will serve these positions until the end of his board member’s term of office on January 3, 2026. He had not agreed to stay in this position for longer.
The duties of the chairman of the board in the Eastern Hospital are required after the resignation of Normunds Staņēvičs from the position of Chairman of the Board to ensure the administrative and operational continuity of the hospital’s work, as well as to fulfill the necessary formalities related to the decision -making and responsibility of the Board for internal activities.
The seal has obtained a doctor’s degree in RSU, where he also graduated from residency studies in surgery and later obtained a doctorate in medicine. In addition to the medical education obtained, the professor has acquired an effective health care program at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, obtaining a management education certificate in health care.
Vadim Belun and Kaspars Plume are also working on the board of Eastern Hospital without Professor Harald Plush.
The main tasks of the Board of the Eastern Hospital are currently related to the implementation of current infrastructure development projects and the provision of the hospital in the context of limited resources.
Currently, the most current tasks of the hospital are the implementation of the new building of the Infectious Diseases and Lung Health Center, the measures to be taken by the Board’s competence in the Stationary « Latvian Oncology Center » (LOC) reconstruction project, as well as providing the hospital in limited funding.
The tasks of the University Hospital also include the introduction of new treatment methods and the conduct of clinical trials, which directly influence not only the development of medical science, but also helps to improve the availability and quality of healthcare across the country.
As reported, at the end of May, Normunds Staņēvičs, chairman of the hospital’s board, announced his resignation, who has been chairing the hospital since April 27, 2023. He made such a decision without finding the basis for constructive cooperation with the Council, as well as due to the future vision of the health sector. The previous chairman of the hospital, Edgar Labs, at the time claimed that this was a mutual agreement.
RAKUS Medical Council Chairman, Chief Specialist and Professor of Internal Medicine Aivars Lejnieks told LETA at the time that recently pressure on the hospital’s board and chairman of the board had been high and incomprehensible. The Lejnieks also stated that he did not want to « whirl the conspiracy theories », but he was made by a suspicious « voluntary agreement » to stop Stanevich in the hospital.
At the same time, RAKUS staff in the letter asked officials to explain Staņēvičs’ resignation. The letter, signed by more than 200 employees, states that Stanevich’s resignation in the staff has led to « outrage and suspicion of unfair influence from the Council ». Therefore, staff calls for the Ministry of Health to provide clarification on why specific officials are appointed to the Council of the Hospital and why these decisions are not provided with open information.
Later, Minister of Health, Hosam Abu Meri (JV) visited the hospital and met with the staff to explain the current situation.
On June 9, a couple of weeks after Stanevich’s resignation, Labsvir, the head of the hospital council, also announced the resignation of the post. He believes that his decision can improve the cooperation between the Board and the Council, to reduce the dissatisfaction of the hospital team with the situation, and to promote the gradual start of the LOC renovation as soon as possible.
Two former council members – Walta Apple and Jolanta Rose – continue their work at RAKUS Council.
