Gentbrugge

What should have been a relaxed walk was very exciting for Hannes (37) when he was suddenly attacked by two stray dogs. « What if this had happened to my children? »

He would rather not in the newspaper. But to warn other people, Hannes tells his story. “Thursday I was quiet one Toerke Running in the Meersen Gentbrugse. I was almost back in the residential areas, close to farmer Janssens, when I suddenly saw a Mechelse Scheper and a Stafford on the street. An owner did not seem to be around. ”

No lap dogs, so Hannes was not at ease. « I started walking, not to make too many sudden movements. At the same time I tried to ignore them, hoping that a boss would recall them. »

But instead, the four -legged friends came closer to Hannes. « At first I thought they were just curious. But the last dozens of meters they really started to turn at me barking. Then I knew it was wrong. I couldn’t go anywhere. »

A lot of blood

And then the dogs struck. Hannes was bitten twice. « I suspect that they both took me once. Fortunately they did not bitten themselves, but there was quite a lot of blood and the bite prints you still see. »

« In a reflex I started running away, but I quickly stopped: the last thing I wanted was their hunting instinct even more. I tried to stay calm and step away, and luckily they also returned to their steps afterwards. »

Once at a safe distance, Hannes called the emergency services. « The police were able to catch the dogs quickly, while my wounds were cared for in the ambulance. Apparently they had escaped from the house of a local resident. At the emergency service the wound was well rinsed and disinfected. »

Hannes tells his story to warn walkers and owners. “I have children aged 2 and 4, I am not allowed to dream what would have happened to them. During my bike and walks I unfortunately often come across loose dogs, and that can clearly be dangerous. He is good, They say then. But it remains an animal, and therefore by definition unpredictable. «
